This book is both a personal journey and a resource manual. So many people have asked us about the places featured in The Sacred Earth. We gleaned a great deal of valuable information during our travels that we did not find in other books. In addition, our personal experiences never failed to amuse and enthrall our listeners.
For more than twenty thousand years, cultures from Old Europe to Siberia to Africa thrived around the worship of feminine energy embodied in the Earth Mother. Through Visions of the Goddess, photographer Courtney Milne and author Sherrill Miller rediscover the expression of the feminine in the landscape. From the depths of the earth in caves and volcanoes, through the fruits of the earth's vegetation, and rising above the earth in the mountains and sky, the Goddess is present today as She was in ancient times, if we could only recognize Her.

Using the Bighorn Medicine Wheel as the center, Courtney Milne follows the directions of each of the 28 spokes of the wheel across North America to explore landscapes rich in mythology, legend, and mystery. The book is divided into four chapters, one for each of the four cardinal directions, portraying locations significant to Native American culture and spirituality.. Books on Canada:
Though fame came late to Emily Carr, she is hailed today as a uniquely powerful and beloved figure in the history of Canadian art, and as a writer of exceptional talent. Emily Carr has endowed us with the ultimate gift, a prescription for finding ourselves in Nature and the volition to express our oneness with all Creation, regardless of what art form we might choose. In this book, Courtney Milne has taken his favorite passages from Emily Carr's writings and matched them to a stunning section of his own photographs of the regions, as well as specific locations, on Canada's West Coast where Carr traveled, painted and wrote.
When W.O. Mitchell died in February 1998, Canadians all across the country mourned the death of a much-loved writer. But it was in the West that his loss was felt most keenly. For he was one of them, a Westerner. His writing in Who Has Seen the Wind, and many other books, brought their part of the world alive on the page, so that millions of readers seemed to breathe fresh Western air as they turned the pages of his works.
Books on the Canadian Prairies:
The Old Man On His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation Area is a 13,000 acre preserve established by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in cooperation with a number of partners, including Sharon and Peter Butala, who lived and worked on these spectacular prairie grasslands for many years.
A vast and vibrant canopy of changing moods and colors, the sky is the most dominant feature of the prairie landscape. This collection of Courtney Milne's exceptional color photographs captures the astonishing variety of the prairie skies - dramatic sunsets, northern lights, rainbows, brilliant sunshine, violent storms, enormous cloud-filled firmaments, as well as the more tranquil, contemplative moods that characterize the region. Beautiful, powerful, and evocative, these images reveal the overwhelming presence of the prairie skies and their profound influence upon the lives of those who inhabit the prairie world.
This is a collection of 130 of Courtney Milne's most evocative color photographs of the prairie landscape. Extracts of poetry and prose from writers across Canada reflect the mood of each image, defining what the region means to those enchanted by the Prairies, as well as those who call it home.
Courtney Milne invites us to see the prairies in new ways, to explore the mosaic, the rich tapestry of design of the prairie landscape. The prairies provide a unique opportunity for the photographer to capture vivid representations of the seasons, colors, geographic regions, light effects, and weather conditions. Courtney Milne shares with us the intimacy of the moment as he skillfully explores the powerful images of the landscape and natural phenomena. Each of the 120 photographs is accompanied by the author's comments describing the significance of the scene and the memories of when the photograph was made.
To celebrate Saskatchewan's centenary, Courtney Milne has returned home to celebrate his first love - Saskatchewan. The breathtaking images pay homage to the beauty of the province's prairies, hills, forests, lakes and skies. The 225 images - coupled with the personal notes, stories and journal entries - reveal why, like all prairie natives, Courtney Milne's world travels always leave him longing for his cherished province.
