CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

My mission is to reveal the Mystery beyond daily reality. My life is in line with this purpose every day that I am making or sharing my photographs, or talking and writing about them. The following are what I consider the highlights in my career.

World Travels
I've traveled this Sacred Earth many times over. But the most exciting journey of discovery was my 1988-89 trip with the woman I was going to share the rest of my life with, Sherrill Miller. This 10-month global photographic expedition launched our relationship and our work together. We returned with more than 60,000 images of some of the world's most exotic landscapes, a marriage proposal at sunrise at the Married Rocks in Japan, and Australian opals for a wedding ring.

Books
Creative projects are like children - the act of conceiving and birthing them is filled with delights and challenges. The joy, pride, hope and aspirations I have for these books multiplies when I let go of them and witness the ripple effects on the people they have touched. I felt especially blessed when His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote the foreword for The Sacred Earth.

Exhibitions
With every new book came a new exhibition. What fun to see one creative venture spawn so many others. Showing and selling prints of my work is like planting seeds in a garden. I know that the beauty which I have been blessed to experience and convey through my camera is now blooming all over the world, creating spaces of healing and inspiration for those whose eyes rest upon it.

Exhibits that I'm particularly proud of are those I believe helped affect change on the stewardship of this planet:
  • To Care for the Earth (1992), a United Nations traveling exhibition
  • The Sacred Earth Exhibition of 54 prints which opened on Earth Day 1993 at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada, where it stayed for five months before traveling to Canadian Embassies in Washington, D.C. and Tokyo, Japan

Presentations
I love to share my passion and ways of seeing. I also love storytelling and creating visually stunning shows. I've learned so much through my experiences interacting with small groups as well as crowds of thousands. I've witnessed the tears of happiness and revelation that my stories have brought to my audiences. Here are a few of the many special events that hold fond memories for me:

  • UNESCO's World Heritage Conference (1990)
  • Waterscapes International Congress (1991)
  • Canadian tour of The Sacred Earth Concert, a fundraiser for local environmental projects and for the Endangered Spaces Campaign of Worldwide Fund For Nature (WWF) (1992)
  • United Nations "Earth Summit" in Rio de Janeiro and the follow-up Eco-Ed World Congress (1992)
  • Jury member for the United Nations Environment Program  (UNEP) International Photography Competition, in Tokyo, Japan with a presentation of The Sacred Earth Concert at the Metropolitan Museum of Photography (1995)
  • Love Songs From Planet Earth, a Premier Presentation with flautist Bettine Clemen and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (1997)
  • My photos featured on a 60 foot screen at the Saskatchewan Centennial Gala, attended by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, with Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Dr. Linda Haverstock, and dignitaries from across Canada (2005)
  • Seeing With New Eyes presentations and workshops (2006-2007)

Workshops
I've led or participated in more than 60 photographic workshops nationally and internationally, including seminars and tours in North America, the Bahamas, Hawaii, New Zealand, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Antarctica and Alaska.

Teaching heightens my awareness and opens me to insights and experiences of everyone in the group. My time spent photographing and sharing with other photographers, artists, writers and various life journeyers has enriched me.

Epiphanies
My journey around the planet has brought me right back to my own yard where I discovered my greatest muse and teacher - my pool. I call it the Pool of Possibilities. The diversity and beauty I have seen in the pool has made me realize that anything is possible if I have the eyes to see. My Pool of Possibilities experience has become a metaphor for how I live my life. It is a continual reminder to look at the rest of the world with new eyes.
