Recognizing Your Individuality:
What a photograph means to you is entirely up to you.  Two people looking at the same photograph to find answers to the same question may interpret the answer in very different ways.  It's a highly personal experience and one that has greatly helped people.

The Steps:

  1. Choose a question about an issue in your life right now.  Let it be simple and direct.  It's best to avoid a question that requires a 'yes' or 'no' answer.

For example, if you are considering a career change, don't ask: "Should I quit my job?" Instead, you might ask: " What would bring me the greatest satisfaction in my work?"

  2. Now gaze at the image above for one or two minutes while asking for guidance. You might want to take a moment first to quiet your mind by breathing deeply and closing your eyes.

  3. Then jot down the first thoughts that come to mind.  There are no wrong answers!

  4. If you get stuck, ask yourself clarifying questions such as the following while still looking at the image.

    * Where am I in the picture?  Where do I want to be?
    * Does this remind me of a time in my life?
    * How do I feel about the colors, the textures, the shapes of the mountains?
    * What does the reflection of the mountains in the water say about your question?

  5. Then review your thoughts to your initial question and decide what you think the answers are for you.

For Example:
We showed the picture above to two people independently, with the question:
"What is stopping me from fully living my life purpose?"

Here are their responses:

First Person:
I'm only focusing on what's right in front of me these days.  I am sowing seeds and planning for harvest, but I am not taking in the big picture.  There's something on my head (or in, really) that is stopping me from looking at what's beyond the stress of daily existence while trying to meet work deadlines.  There is a whole spiritual realm that exists all around me, but I'm not fully aware of it because of my blinders.  Yes, my feet are in water ... meaning I am connected to Spirit.  But I am bent over from the pressures of daily living. I often forget to connect with my spiritual guides - they are like the mountains in the mist, surrounding and protecting me. What this image is telling me is that I need to take more time to connect with my spiritual guides and to look at the bigger picture to be fully in touch with my life purpose.  D.H.

Second Person:
The man looks like he's at peace and harmony with his landscape.  That's what I'd like to achieve.  When I look at the mountains, I think of my own barriers.  I see my own inhibitions and not being able to let go.  What I mean is that I'm not letting my real self shine through in certain situations.  And I'm not always comfortable with myself because of those barriers. S.P.

A follow-up question could be:
"What can I do next to be in touch with my life purpose?"

Your Turn
To answer this or any other question, go to the Sacred Earth Reading page or Pool of Possibilities Reading page and continue your exploration of your own Inner Landscapes.  Or, if you'd rather, read more examples  to help you understand the infinite possibilities and symbolism in such a reading.

If you are new to this type of work, keep in mind  that Inner Landscapes readings take practice and patience. Don't be to hard on yourself if you feel all the answers are not coming right away. If you discover you have a gift for this work, you might enjoy facilitating a reading for a friend. We also offer assisted private readings or workshops.
