TEN REASONS WHY THIS IS
THE POOL OF POSSIBILITIES
 |
|
1. The Pool of Healing
To relax with the pool, or spend time with the photographs and the thoughts it inspires, can be a profoundly healing experience. The pool nurtures us from the inside out. It restores our souls and brings a sense of abiding peace. It is that caress that makes it so hard to turn away when I am photographing it.

2. The Pool of Miracles
Some people feel drawn to come here for inexplicable reasons. They come, and only later understand why. Something in their life has shifted and the pool played a vital part. The photographs and my associated stories sometimes have the same transformative effect on people. The key is how open you are to the images that draw you. They can teach you to see with new eyes.

3. The Pool of Empowerment
There is a predominant question that underlies all of the pool photography: "If I can see the pool in so many ways, how many other ways can I see the rest of my life?" This question prompts us to look within ourselves. It encourages us to become more aware of the multidimensionality of who we are, what we stand for, and the power we have to chart a course through our own waters.
In short, I see the pool as a reflection of our total selves - our hopes, our dreams, our aspirations, our perceived limitations and most importantly, our infinite resources to grow and aspire to greatness.

4. The Pool of Nature's Rhythms
The pool is a minute piece of nature, a tiny microcosm of the grand and wonderful planet we all inhabit. When we tune into it, really paying attention to its heartbeat, we are training ourselves in the art of observation and of caring. Learning to care for the pool is learning to care for our entire planet. By honoring the pool, I have learned to honor Nature's Rhythms.

5. The Pool of Bliss
Often - in fact, very often - when I photograph the pool, I quickly lose myself into what appears in the viewfinder of the camera. The act of peering not only blocks out the rest of the world, but also allows me to forget about myself. Remove the stresses, the mundane concerns of daily living, and what is left? Pure, beautiful bliss, again and again and again.

6. The Pool of Familiarity
The pool is literally one step outside my patio door. I see it through the picture window in my living room. I enjoy it from my upstairs balcony. It keeps knocking at my door, "Can Courtney come out and play?" I have gotten to know this space better than any other. Even in mid-winter it feels like a soft easy chair, or a pair of woolen socks - comfortable and cozy. In short, it's home to my heart and my soul.

7. The Pool of Love and Gratitude
The pool has become a special place, one that just seems to keep on giving. We keep giving the pool love and it responds in amazing ways, both seen and felt by many people. It also provides me with limitless love through its infinite expressions I record in my camera. In turn, I adore it, saying thank you after every photo session. My gratitude produces more love as the relationship continues to grow and deepen. As a body of pure consciousness, the pool experiences me in much the same way as I experience it. Masaru Emoto has shown me how water imprints and conveys messages -- the pool and I are both composed of water. It is easy to love each other.

8. The Pool of Mirrors
Whether it be summer waters or winter ice, I see the pool as a mirror of my inner landscape. It causes me to ponder, to reminisce, to explore my own depths. It is a reflection of my hopes and fears, joys and sorrows, highs and lows, thoughts and feelings. In short, the pool allows me to get to know myself in an intimate way, especially during my longer visits when I have more time to slow the heady pace and allow the next layer of feelings to surface. I have seen that my photographs of the pool can have the same reflective influence on people as the pool does on me. That is why subscribers of the Pool of Possibilities e-Calendar have an opportunity to write each day about their responses. I call it the Reflections Journal.

9. The Pool of Surprises
You know how sometimes we can get into a rut where each day feels like a repeat of the last? It is as though we lose our appetite, or at the least, life's flavors don't taste as delicious as they once did. Scientific research now shows that we need to grow new neural pathways to bypass old habits and to ingrain new responses in our brains. A daily visit to the pool (or to the Pool of Possibilities e-Calendar) is a way of side stepping old patterns and replacing them with tasty delights - more tang, more zip, more spark. The pool makes me want to jump for joy, and maybe even click my heels before landing! After eight years of this love affair, I am constantly amazed at how fresh and exciting each day is.

10. The Pool of Infinite Wisdom
The Pool of Possibilities is infinite. It is as small as a single drop, and as large as the Universe. Water holds memory, the entire archive of all that is and all that was. Part of my understanding is from Masaru Emoto's books such as The Miracle of Water. Just as in a hologram, each fragment contains all of the information of the whole, so the Pool holds all of the knowledge we will ever require. It embraces everyone regardless of race, religion, nationality, age, gender and political persuasion.
